Kaj Franck

Kaj Franck was born in 1911 in Finland. He was a designer and perhaps primarily known as a glass artist. He graduated as Interior Designer in 1932 from the Helsinki School of Fine Arts in Helsinki. He worked for the glasswork Iittala between 1946-50, Nuutajärvi Notsjö between 1950-76 and for the ceramic factory Arabia, where he was the artistic leader during 1968-73.

He was a timeless functionalist who was happy to experiment with playful elements in his design. Soft, stylish lines often with strong colors and beautiful details. He is one of the post-war most significant designers in Finland and in 1973 he was awarded a professorship.
